Purpose

The module aims to describe how schizophrenia is diagnosed and treated, with reference to people with intellectual disability.

The module aims to provide information to individuals working with people with an intellectual disability, who want to increase their understanding of the knowledge and theory about people with intellectual disability and mental health problems.

After completing this module, you should be able to: Have a understanding of the symptoms and signs of schizophrenia Understand how these might present in people with intellectual disability Be aware of the issues in assessing a person with intellectual disability for schizophrenia Have an understanding of the treatment approach to schizophrenia Have an understanding of the adjustments that may need to be made in people with intellectual disability
