population when suffering from a mood
disorder.

Untreated mood disorders decrease a
person’s functioning and increase the risk
of a range of other problems.

Psychological treatments are likely to be
as effective as in the general population
although they may require some modification.
5.
Treatment of mood disorders in people with an ID is similar to treatment in the
general population although people with an ID may respond more slowly.
6.
Regular review of medication and active monitoring for side effects is required.
