Module 12 - The Service System
Key Learning Points:
1.
Mental health systems are set up
differently to Disability service systems,
and have a different way of working.
2.
The State public mental health systems
tend to include a crisis response service,
inpatient beds, outpatient support in the
community and a limited amount of
residential and rehabilitation options.
3.
The Psychiatric Disability Rehabilitation
and Support Service (PDRSS) sector has a
more long-term and rehabilitative focus for
people with mental illness.
4.
Other Medicare based options include general practitioners and mental health
practice nurses, private psychiatrists and private psychologists.
5.
Disability support services usually have a limited crisis response, have a longer term
focus of care, and tend to broker services from NGOs where possible to embed the
person into their community.
